Say hello to the new Raptor. Equipped with an 8K V V, Vista Vision sensor that can record movements at up to 120fps, the camera will be available for $24,500. A live Q & A with RED CEO Jarred Land is scheduled for today at 2 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. While we waited for the Red’s live stream, the company decided to skip the stream and instead showed an image of the camera before redirecting it back to its website.
The New DSMC3 Lineup Revealed
So it’s clear now it is the new DSMC3 Lineup.
Let us take a closer look. The camera has a Vista Vision sensor that allows you to shoot in 8K, large format 6K, and Super35 in crop mode. Other modes such as 4K and 2K are also available. The company claims the camera can record a dynamic range and has any RED camera’s fastest sensor scanning time.

Amazing 600fps High Speed
Speaking of frame rates, the camera can shoot in 17: 9 mode at an impressive 120fps at 8K, 240fps at 4K, 480fps at 2K. An exceptional frame rate of 600fps can be achieved in 2K in 2.4: 1 mode.
Robust And Dustproof
The first teaser images show that the camera has a fresh form factor similar to the Komodo DSCM2 lineup. The design is compact, robust and waterproof, and dustproof. The body is made of aluminum and measures 6 x 4.25 inches, and weighs 4 pounds.
New Features
The new model offers 16-bit Redcode RAW recording with a maximum data rate of 800 MB/s. This is made possible by the Red Pro CFexpress card developed by Angelbird. We can also confirm that the DSMC3 L is based on the simplified redcode raw compression ratio HQ / MQ / LQ introduced by Red Komodo. Like the Komodo, the camera has a native Canon RF port, which allows a wide selection of full-frame lenses and has phase detection autofocus.
Ports And Connections
The RED V-Raptor includes two 4K 12G SDI ports, a 5-pin XLR input for Wi-Fi connectivity, a multipurpose 9-pin ext port, and timecode input. A USB-C connector for wired controls is also added on the back. Teaser images are expected to be powered on the camera’s back by a V-mount battery, while an integrated 2.4-inch LCD for the camera control is installed on the right side of the body.
Price And Availability
The new white Stormtrooper version of the Red V-Raptor will be available on the RED website. But let’s see for how long the stocks last. It’s available for $24,500.00. The black version will only be available in large quantities until the end of 2021. The XL version of this camera is designed for studio configurations, with high-end production scheduled for the first half of 2022. The Red V Raptor Starter Pack will be available for $29,579.99, with production options and a more comprehensive accessory package that will be available later this year.
It’s nice to see the first impression of the new RED DSMC3 lineup. And we can really be excited about what the future will bring us. What do you think about the new RED V-Raptor?
